Sustainability

When we created KOPI, we wanted to introduce great Indonesian coffees to everyone. Our mission is to ensure our coffees not only taste good, but also makes us feel good. We believe that building a socially-conscious company from the start matters. But what does it really mean? It means we are committed to implement not just better practices for our business, but also those that drives positive impacts towards our community and the environment.

Do Better

Better approach to sourcing coffee is important. It means making sure that the growers get better value for their crops and paid fairly if not more. So that they can build better home for their family and not just merely produce quality specialty coffee. We also believe that ensuring our farmers, ourselves as a business and community to do better, is essential. As a coffee roaster and shop, KOPI is committed to find better practices to also reduce our climate impacts.

We want to build ourselves better. So it is important in measuring what matters most, our impact; towards our team, community, environment, and our customers. There are great resources available and as we keep growing, the B Impact Assessment helps guide KOPI's commitment towards better practices each step of the way.

Packaging

We work together with Elevate Packaging and use their compostable bag for our coffee. The pouches are vegan, non-GMO, and are not made with PLA. They do not contain harmful chemicals such as bisphenol (including BPA and over a dozen other derivatives), PFAS, or phthalates. Each of the pouches component, including the films, zipper, and degassing valve, is individually certified compostable (ASTM D6400, EN13432, TUV OK Compost for Zipper & Valve). These films and components meet composting standards for industrial composting environments and is also Safe for Home Composting! Although results in home compost systems may vary, here are some quick pointers to help:

If you don't have any compost bin or unable to compost at home, please check with local resources in your community as they may have information where to get compost bin, locations of compost drop-off sites, or curbside compost.

Zero Waste

From our packaging, stickers, paper, to our shipping supplies, KOPI uses eco-friendly items as we strive to move away from wasting and more toward a sense of responsibility for our surroundings. We work together with EcoEnclose, Compost Colorado, Waste Management, and EcoCycle to help us with our zero waste goal! We will keep on learning and stand by our commitment to finding better ways for our business, community, our planet, and our future.
