Bali

Renowned for its breathtaking beaches, beautiful serene yoga retreats and Hindu temples, Bali produces coffee unlike any other regions in Indonesia. Typically grown alongside citrus fruits and vegetables, Balinese coffee creates a taste characteristic that is very unique to this region.

Nestled between two volcanoes, Kintamani Highlands has an altitude of 900 to 1,100 meters; ideal for growing coffee. Rich volcanic soils provides a source of nutrients allowing surrounding trees to develop rich flavors. The area has over 3,000 small scale farmers organized by traditional group called “Subak Abian”. In Bali, these groups has acted as cooperatives combining knowledge and resources to help each other throughout the farm management and post-harvest process.

The majority of people in Bali identify as Hindu and the farmers follow a philosophy called “Tri Hita Karana” or the three causes of well being: harmony with your fellow man, harmony with God, and harmony with nature. Coffee produced under this philosophy is largely free of agrochemicals.
